On our first day of ministry, it wasn’t what I would have expected.  The first day in the D.R., we just saw the slums and prayed but we didn’t go in.  In Haiti, we prepared just a bit before going door-to-door.  Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia were all easy to step into.  Mozambique took a while before anything ever happened and Botswana was a month of stepping into our natural gifts.  Now, I am not saying that these months didn’t have there hard moments (because they truly did).  But stepping in, in these past months were not as hard as this.
We went and did a house visit.  We met Maswane, only 19 years old and already in the last stages of HIV/AIDS.  Here she lay on a mattress with little life left in her.  At 15 years old, she probably had her whole life planned out for herself.  But then, someone came in and stole not only her innocence but also her life.  She was raped (at age 15) by her uncle and maybe her own brother.  And now, at 19 years old, she is dying.
Shouldn’t she be given the opportunity to go to college?  Shouldn’t she be given the opportunity to get married and have children?  One man shattered all her dreams.
At first, it was hard to see God at work in this.  Here lay one of His children, dying and suffering.  Where is He?  But then, He told me that this hurt Him too.  I only feel a portion of the hurt He feels.  But He also is comforting her… He is easing her pain.  He said that in a little while, she would be spending eternity side-by-side with Him.
Then, his peace overflowed.
