Coming into Botswana, our team was a little sad that we would spend another month in the bush. Last month, we pretty much were “roughing it”. We spent the month in our tents in the cold, cooking over a fire, drinking dirty water, using the worst bathroom setup ever, etc. And we expected it to be just as bad this month… if not worst.
Dave felt we needed to pray about getting free transportation into Botswana (because the month was already looking expensive). We called many churches and whatnot but to no success. God had other plans. We ended up renting a couple cars and along the way gave a ride to a woman named Grace.
Grace was headed to Kanye, Botswana. She needed to get to her father’s funeral. She had prayed that God would send someone to give her a lift and she was excited when God had answered her prayers. I wasn’t in the car that she was in but apparently she ended up being a blessing to the teammates who were in the car.
We finally arrived in Lobatse. We met the Walker’s who not only hospitable but were just such a blessing. You can just feel the love of God in their home. We all felt at home in their home and it was hard to say goodbye, even when we knew we would see them again in a week.
Our team headed to Magopa not knowing what it would bring. But when we got there, we were in awe of what God had for us. We got to stay with an amazing family and just bless them with some of our talents. We got to work on their new home by painting, tiling, etc.
I also got to cook!!! I felt so good being able to bless my team in that way. I taught myself how to make tortillas (just remembered what I saw my Mom do) and I learned how to make an Afrikaans meal too. Our team thought we’d bless the family by making dinner for them each night so they can get some rest and not only did they chose to make us some meals they blessed us with beef!!! (Believe me… this is a big deal because meat can get expensive here in Africa.)
We got to visit Namibia. It was AMAZING! We went to this REALLY BIG tree and had a picnic and communion there.
We finally headed back and got to spend more time with The Walker’s and said bye several times and had a hard time leaving there house on our last night there (we stayed til midnight or something).
It was a great month… and as always… GOD IS GOOD!
