“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”  Ecc. 3:1

As a kid, I always anticipated new seasons with such excitement.  When it was winter, I longed for spring.  I longed for warmer days, birds chirping and flowers blooming.  When it was spring, I thought about how happy I would be when it was summer.  I enjoyed going fishing, swimming and being on school break.  During summer I looked ahead to the days of autumn.  Seeing the leaves change and fall and while they were on the ground stepping on every cracking leaf in my path.  And during autumn just waiting impatiently for winter to come.  Snuggling under my covers, drinking hot chocolate and listening to Christmas music.

As an adult, I have decided that winter is way too cold and I never miss it, summer is too hot and miserable and that spring and autumn are just right.

This applies to life too.  As a kid, seasons came and went but it had no real affect on me that I could sense but as an adult the thought of a new season, a new chapter scares me at times.  But just as seasons are important for the growth of plants, they are important to our growth in Christ.

As the race is coming to an end, so is one season ending as a new one is just around the corner waiting to begin.  And I won’t lie, I am scared but am trusting God to walk me through and make this next chapter as fun and adventurous as this one.

Please pray for our squad as we prepare for this new season.  That we wait patiently for it and that we are not anxious but filled with peace.

lyrics to “Every Season” by Nicole Nordeman

Every evening sky, an invitation
To trace the patterned stars
And early in July, a celebration
For freedom that is ours
And I notice You
In children’s games
In those who watch them from the shade
Every drop of sun is full of fun and wonder
You are summer

And even when the trees have just surrendered
To the harvest time
Forfeiting their leaves in late September
And sending us inside
Still I notice You when change begins
And I am braced for colder winds
I will offer thanks for what has been and was to come
You are autumn

And everything in time and under heaven
Finally falls asleep
Wrapped in blankets white, all creation
Shivers underneath
And still I notice you
When branches crack
And in my breath on frosted glass
Even now in death, You open doors for life to enter
You are winter

And everything that’s new has bravely surfaced
Teaching us to breathe
What was frozen through is newly purposed
Turning all things green
So it is with You
And how You make me new
With every season’s change
And so it will be
As You are re-creating me
Summer, autumn, winter, spring
