Okay… where to start!
On February 1st our squad woke up thinking we would have a normal drive out to Santo Domingo (the capital of the D.R.) only to find that this was our first race day! We had to find our way to the capital then find a few places located there.
We saw some beautiful places: from a cathedral to a HUGE statue to a lighthouse. Our day was definitely filled of adventures. First, our bus ride to Santo Domingo started with our driver having no clue where he was taking us to us having to pay more because of our bags. We left San Juan at least a half hour before the other teams and arrived at the YWAM base 20 minutes after the last team. We then had to take a taxi to Plaza de Colon (where there is a lot of history concerning The New World and Christopher Columbus). We crammed all 7 of our team members plus the cab driver into a small Honda Civic. As we drove down the road, the car continued to die and people would point at the front tire trying to let the driver know that it looked as though it was coming off. FUN!!
On the 2nd we woke up early as we boarded a bus to Porte au Prince, Haiti. The bus drive took 10 hours! We had to wait at Haiti’s border for a while because of some complications. When we arrived at the bus station we met up with our contact Lubens and boarded a mini van to Jacmel; which took another couple hours.
The house we are staying at is beautiful and has a marvelous view. I was sleeping on the front deck where my nights were filled with a beautiful night sky and I’d wake up every morning to the sunrise coming over the mountain. But last night I was asked to move inside because every night I was waking up to being choked.
The spiritual warfare has been pretty intense. Many of us have been sick, having nightmares and I have been waking up being choked by satan. But this excites me because this means that the devil is scared because God wants to do big things in Jacmel!
